This is so exciting! We are now on Celebrate Recovery lesson 24 – Yes! Along with a FREE study guide, you will be enriched in this lesson by the ways you can say, Yes! It’s time for you to buckle up and see where God wants to place you in various ministries.
You might think that because you are in recovery, you need to focus only on your well-being. However, that is far from true. The reality is that you could benefit newcomers – people who have arrived at a Celebrate Recovery meeting for the first time! That’s just one example!!
In Celebrate Recovery lesson 24, we continue looking at Principle 8, which states that we will yield ourselves to God to be used to bring the Good News to others – both by the way we live our lives and the words that come out of our mouths. You never know who might hear you!
This lesson continues to look at the final step – Step 12 – that is, the spiritual experience you have, the ability you have to carry it out to others, and the way you can practice it in all of your affairs.
Step 12 is part of both the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Celebrate Recovery programs. Step 12 means that you are ready to expand and reach out to other people through a ministry or, if you are really ambitious, more than one ministry!

What is Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24: YES?
Celebrate Recovery (CR) principle 8 states: Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words. There are so many things you can do to show love to others; just open your heart, and the opportunities will come your way!
Step 12 says, Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we try to carry out this message to others and practice these 8 principles in everything we do.
Maybe you think you have too much baggage to help someone else. Perhaps you wonder how you can make a difference when you are just one person. Believe me when I say that we all have gifts and talents that can be used for God’s glory!!
Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires. – Matthew 5:10
Lesson | Principle | Step | Bible Verse |
24 | 8 | 12 | Matthew 5:10; Galatians 6:1 |
In Celebrate Recovery lesson 24, we will get a bit vulnerable. After all, God wants to use you and meet you where you are right now. He doesn’t want you to become some silly idea of a “perfect” Christian or a “completely” recovered addict or something. He wants YOU as you are!
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. – Galatians 6:1
What Does “Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24” Mean?
Celebrate Recovery is a Christian 12-step recovery program originally created by Pastors John Baker and Rick Warren. It is Biblically based and Christ-centered. CR was created and sustained for anyone struggling with bad habits, hurts, or hang-ups.
AA has been around longer and does benefit many people. CR is a bit more broad, as it covers a wide range of topics. The CR program is Christian, but you do not have to be a Christian to join. The program is based on the Celebrate Recovery 8 principles from the Bible.
Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24 is the sixth lesson in the Growing in Christ While Helping Others Participant’s Guide 4. You can buy it online or purchase it at your CR meeting or CR step study. This curriculum is usually done with a group called a CR step study.
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is done. – James 2:17
Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24 – YES Notes and Lessons
Here are the main points from the lesson called Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24 – Yes.
Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24 Notes
According to the Celebrate Recovery study guide, and as they love to do this, YES can be broken down into three parts (Y-E-S). Let’s look at each one a little more closely.
#1. Yield myself to God.
When you yield yourself to God’s Will, that means that you are surrendering complete control of your own desires. It can also mean that you should stop trying to dictate every aspect of your life and of the lives of the others you are around.
Let go of that control, and you’ll likely find peace! When you relinquish that control and hand the reins over to God, you will focus more on eternal things rather than on the things of this world. Imagine how freeing that could be for your life!
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our Apostle and High Priest. – Hebrews 3:1 (NIV)
#2. Your Example is what’s important.
How you live your life is important. We were only given one life to live, so why not use it for God’s glory? Why not use it to show the world how different things can be when you take Jesus Christ in as your Savior? Basically, your walk needs to match your talk.
Do not appear to be one way based on the things you say, and then act completely different when you are in different circumstances. Your lifestyle or demeanor should not change based on who you are around. Try putting others first and acting out in love over the ways of the world.
Instead of indulging your pride, lust, or selfishness, consider adopting the way of our Savior – acting with humility, love, and service.
Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. – 1 John 3:18
#3. Serve others as Jesus did.
Did you know that Christ, although He was the authority above all other humans, washed the feet of His disciples? How humbling that experience must have been! As we attempt to walk in the way that He did, think about what He would do in each situation you find yourself in.
Maybe don’t hold up your favorite finger when someone cuts you off on the highway or in traffic. Perhaps you should hold your tongue when someone really pushes your buttons to try to get a rise out of you. Show others that you will act out of love and respect, and watch their reactions!
When you approach others out of love and respond to them in lovely ways, they will likely be surprised. This is a good thing! Continue to show your character – who you really are deep down inside – that is, what you are made of!
And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow: do as I have done to you. – John 13:14-15 (TLB)
How to Say YES in Recovery
While there are many ways to say “Yes,” we are going to look at just a few. These apply to Celebrate Recovery and may or may not be useful for those not in recovery.
The first example is being an accountability partner. If you see someone sitting alone, do not think that they prefer it that way. Reach out, attempt to lift them up in some way, and even offer to be an accountability partner.
Another example of something you can do is to be a sponsor. Sure, it will take a bit more time and effort in most cases, but you can provide comfort in ways that others often cannot. Use your journey to encourage the walk of someone who is just starting out.
Finally, continue to be involved in Celebrate Recovery and in your local church. Find ways to serve and help others. Look for growth opportunities in the ministries you are most passionate about or where you believe your spiritual gifts are. God gave you those talents to share!
In response to all He has done for us, let us outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other and in doing good. – Hebrews 10:24 (TLB)

A Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24 – My Story
So, I’m Michele, and I am a grateful believer in Jesus Christ. I am celebrating recovery from addictions and triumphing over past abuse. I still struggle with perfectionism – amongst other things! I am slowly learning that the only One to be perfect is Jesus!
Here are my personal takeaways from Celebrate Recovery Lesson 24 – Yes:
- Get involved in a Bible class at church. People will not get to know you very well otherwise. Be around other Christians – believers who DO walk the talk!
- Make the time to reach out to newcomers at Celebrate Recovery meetings. This was not meant to be a road that you walk alone. Volunteer at your church’s other ministries and really watch your heart change as you learn to show what love is all about.
- Use the things that you know and the things that you learn to help other people. God did not bless you with your specific gifts and talents to hoard them for yourself. Share!
- Be a good example in each moment of your day. Show people that there is a way to be different – a way to rise above the rest. Reach far above that negativity in the world!
- If you cannot have what you desire the most, ask God to change the desires of your heart. A simple twist in this way might be exactly what you need right now!
- Be ambitious when it comes to Christian leadership. Step outside of your comfort zone and just watch what God will do with you – if you will just let Him!
To learn more about my spiritual walk, read my spiritual testimony! If you would like to or need to build your relationship with God (or restore it), I encourage you to check out the Psalms Bible Study. It will show you exactly how to build a quiet time with God – a lifetime habit!!
