What is a Spiritual Testimony Example?

First, let’s look at what a spiritual testimony is. A testimony is a general account of the life of someone else. You might read or hear testimonies at an Alcoholics Anonymous or Celebrate Recovery meeting and become inspired to write your own.

A spiritual testimony example is simply an example of someone sharing their spiritual testimony. When it comes to testimonies, you might hear recovery testimonies, where addicts or other victims recount their struggles and how they overcame them. With a spiritual testimony example, the individual recounts their spiritual journey and how they were saved.

Plus, there is a good chance that a spiritual testimony example will include how their relationship with God is currently blossoming and what they plan to do in the future.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

A Spiritual Testimony Example

In this article, the creator of Sharing Life and Love (me) will share about my journey. This is a brief spiritual testimony of Michele L Kelsey. Please enjoy, but withhold judgment of my personal journey. We are all on our own path, and that is a different one for each person!

The Early Years

I did grow up going to church and reading and studying the Bible. In fact, I saw a true transformation when I attended church camp as a youth, and I was saved and brought into the family of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Even though my life did not go as planned, I always knew God was there for me, and when I had real trials in my life, He was the Rock that steadied me. He always had my back.

Growing up, I didn’t really learn a whole lot about how to pray or study the Bible in-depth. Maybe it was taught to me, and I refused to listen and apply what I learned. I guess that is often what happens when you are younger.

However, I was fortunate to grow up in a home that went to church regularly and loved God wholeheartedly!

Nevertheless, I had many negative influences in my life over the years – people who were not helping me build a solid foundation with our Lord. I don’t think I really understood what salvation was until I became a young adult and started truly studying the Bible with all my heart and applying it to my life.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on It day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in It. – Joshua 1:8a (NIV)

When Things Changed for Me

My faith really blossomed after tragedy struck our family. Isn’t it amazing how you can feel the farthest from God and the closest to Him at the same time? I was angry and began questioning everything about God and His character when tragedy came my way.

Soon after this, my husband and I began to realize how important a relationship with Jesus really was. We knew that there was a greater purpose in this loss and began going to church faithfully in 2020.

The loss of a loved one inspired me to be like Christ. This dear family member was such a generous and giving man. He truly gave his heart and soul and loved people as we are told to – like Christ. I really wanted to make him proud of my life. I didn’t realize how God would change me and my character from this experience.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

How the Change Happened

Ecclesiastes 3:1 Spiritual Testimony Example

I started an online ministry to show loving kindness to others and share the Gospel with anyone and everyone. I didn’t begin Sharing Life and Love to make money or even share my faith – at first. I didn’t realize what my mission was, to be honest.

Then, as I was reading the Bible, the Holy Spirit laid a verse on my heart, which encouraged me to publish the great news of the Gospel of Christ and hold nothing back.

I turned Sharing Life and Love, which was previously Elf All Year – more of a charitable resource, into a faith ministry so that I could teach others about the Bible, how to pray, and most of all, how to have a relationship with Christ!

My transformation was definitely a gradual process. I had to rethink many ideas that I believed about religion. I knew I needed to learn as much as possible if I wanted to teach others effectively. I do have formal education in Bible, but I don’t consider myself to be an expert. Heck, I still have not studied all of the books of the Bible!

I did not think I was qualified to teach or share the message God had put on my heart (that’s the perfectionist inside of me), but I persevered, nonetheless.

Previously, I would spend time in the Bible by doing Bible journaling (art and drawing) and digging into the Word through various Bible studies. I’m not sure I completely applied what I learned to my life.

My heart was changed, but was it truly changed as much as possible? With God, not a chance!

All things are possible with God. – Mark 10:27b (NIV)

What I Now Realize

I’ve now realized that God can do anything! He can take someone who was so lost in her own little world and put the Holy Spirit in her, changing her from the inside out. It is an awesome process to witness first-hand when it happens to you.

I think my attitude and relationship with God truly changed when I decided to participate in Lent. My husband had banned himself from soda a few times during “fasts,” but I never joined in. Then, in the Spring of 2022, I felt convicted to give God all of me – 100%!

For my “fast,” I did away with secular entertainment for 40 days. It was enlightening! I had never realized how much time and effort I spent watching secular television or listening to secular music. The process really changed my heart.

In summary, I learned how to spend time with God – all the time, not just in a 15-minute “quiet time” period. I devoted myself to Christ. Granted, this is easier for someone who works from home and does not have many children to care for, but it is certainly worth trying!

I once read about a lady with a dozen kids who found quiet time throughout her day over and over again simply by putting a dish towel over her face! You’ve got to do whatever works for you, right?

To be honest, going to church, listening to Christian music, and attending Bible studies did not change my life overnight. Even the process of my secular fast did not do it. I am different from how I once was, and all of these things contributed to that, but they weren’t instant game-changers.

There is a time for everything. – Ecclesiastes 3:1a (NIV)

What Really Changed Me

Mark 10:27 Spiritual Testimony Example

The thing that changed me was time. I learned that you can’t expect the Holy Spirit to work in you overnight – not without a lot of prayer and trust. Likewise, you can’t be an expert at prayer or have an awesome bond with God in an instant.

All of these things take practice and time. The more you do it, the easier it gets!

The key is to learn how to be patient with God and His timing for the plans in your life. As a planning nerd, I can safely say that I do not find these things to come easily. I wanted to always be in complete control, which meant trusting myself over God. No one is that powerful!

When I studied the book of Ruth in the Bible, I learned that sometimes, God will say NO, but this is not a bad thing. He often doesn’t give us our way because he is saying YES to something even better.

Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God. – Ruth 1:16b (NIV)

What I Would Have Done Differently

I would have shown God more appreciation if I had put those pieces together long ago! He has now answered all of my prayers from the past! I just never opened my eyes to see it.

It takes spiritual maturity to realize all of this and to appreciate God for all He does in our lives. Everything with God is a process, and we must appreciate that. For example, I learned that I could not hit up God like a vending machine to answer my every request, but He loves me and wants to know them all!

It’s so beautiful to see God at work in our lives if you just take a moment to count your blessings and develop an attitude of gratitude

One thing I kept praying for was understanding my purpose and the ability to carry it out. That is still on my list of prayer requests, but more, I would ask for wisdom to better understand Him and His will for my life. That way, when the opportunity presents itself, I can recognize it and act accordingly.

I’ve learned SO much through various Bible classes, studies, mentors, and just by teaching others through my ministry. Those resources have helped me understand the Bible and what’s inside of me – the Holy Spirit. It’s a gorgeous thing to witness!!

The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes. – Romans 8:26 (NIV)

How Have I Changed?

2 Corinthians 9:8 Spiritual Testimony Example

How has my life changed the most? Well, I’m far from perfect! I don’t have it all down. However, I try to put God’s will or what I believe to be His best for me first. I learned how to pray – gradually! I am like anyone else – still a work in progress, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

My reputation has definitely changed since committing myself to the Lord. Before, people would likely see me as a rebel – someone who was the definition of “trouble” since I tended to do the opposite of what I should and not care what others thought of me much (including God)! I definitely did not make God proud of me back then.

Now, I sure hope people know I’m a Christian! Rather, I want them to know I am an ambassador for Christ – someone willing to walk through coal for the Lord. He would do that for me, so why wouldn’t I?

How do I show this? When I get on social media, I try to only post things that might bring people closer to Christ. I have “fun” doing things like hitting up our local Christian bookstore or studying my Bible in a new way! Bible journaling and taking notes in the Bible are still a passion of mine!

I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You. – Psalm 119:11 (NIV)

What Am I Doing Now – Spiritually?

Friends are something I am still working on, but I’m currently attending many groups and making many efforts to reach out. I know God will help me in this area, and I work to constantly be the kind of friend someone would want to have.

My habits now revolve around God and my faith. I spend hours in prayer, as I am still learning how to do this! I’m even in a prayer class! I love doing Bible studies, so there is plenty of knowledge floating around in my head, and I just pray for God to give me the wisdom to apply it.

As a planner, I would love to go into the details of my Spiritual habits and what goes into each one because that is just fun to me. I don’t have as many hobbies that flow outside of my faith as I once did. Part of me just feels that I need to focus on the Lord right now and that stuff can come later.

All in all, have I changed? Oh, yes! I am a new woman. My husband could vouch for this. If you want to see a miracle, just ask about my life and what I’ve overcome

As a single person, I just prayed to be married. I never dreamed that the man I married would be the man of my dreams, but he is! God has blessed us – tenfold! I didn’t truly appreciate this until I embraced the Lord as my Savior. He truly answers prayers!

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. – 1 John 5:14 (NIV)

My Challenge to You

So, my question to you is this: How have you allowed God to change your life? You definitely have to step outside of your comfort zone to let Him in. You need to open your heart and give Him a chance to work. You must be patient because it is all a process!

One of my greatest desires, if not THE greatest desire, is to share the Gospel (the Good News about Christ) with others! I want to help people experience the true joy that I have!! If you felt something this wonderful, you would just be selfish if you kept it all to yourself, right??

My hope is that this has impacted you in a small way, at least. Maybe you will pick up your Bible and study the book of Ruth. Perhaps you will go to a conference or Bible study that will inspire you to study the Bible further. Maybe you’ll start a ministry yourself and spread the News about Christ to even more people!

I pray that God will bless your life and whatever path you are on, but I truly hope your life will be impacted by your relationship with the Lord as mine has been! It is worth every second battling the enemy!

We are warriors – built to defeat the enemy and win this war – with God on our side!

Let’s celebrate together in Heaven one day!! Can’t wait to meet you there! I’ll be the one with a planner!

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes. – Romans 1:16a (NIV)
