Have you ever wanted to be a prayer warrior – one who knows how to pray about anything? We can’t all be like David, one of the key authors of the book of Psalms. What is great is that you do not need to be! God made you as you are, and wants to hear what’s on your heart.
You do not have to reserve your time of prayer to be when everything is just right. God is not expecting perfection. The key to learning how to pray about anything is being yourself and praying about what is on your heart – day or night.
Bring it all to God – no matter how bad you think it is. List your confessions with a humble heart. Ask for forgiveness. Pray to God about every step that comes your way. He knows what the future holds and will guide you with the Holy Spirit when you pray. Trust His guidance.

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. – 1 Peter 5:7

How to Pray About Anything: 6 Transforming Ways
Learn how to pray about anything as you explore these transforming tactics. These unique ways will help you grow closer to God as you improve the communication you have with Him.

#1 – Bring everything to God immediately.
Don’t wait for clarity or a sense of calm; prayer should begin the moment anxiety rises. So often, I see people act like they cannot bring their problems to God until their lives are perfect. They wait for that perfect moment, that perfect person, or that perfectly answered prayer.
Guess what? God doesn’t expect you to be perfect. There was only one human alive who was perfect, and that was and is Jesus Christ. Remember that God made you just the way you are. He created the imperfections that you believe hold you back from praying to God immediately.
Instead of waiting for perfection to talk to our Creator, be yourself. If you feel too damaged to talk to God, keep in mind that you are not. You can easily pray about anything in the moment you need God. He knows you. Bring your problems to God before you do anything else.
So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. – Genesis 1:27
#2 – Pray with a surrendered heart.
Release the illusion of control and invite God’s Will into the situation. Think about it carefully. Have you ever prayed for God’s Will to be done over yours? Do you seek His answers before the ones you think are right? When you release control and let God reign, you will find peace.
Make sure you have released from your heart any bitterness, anger, and evil thoughts. If that has led you to sin, confess that sin right away. Make sure you are ready for what God has in store for you. You can really only do that with an open heart.
When you make room for God in your life, you will soon discover that things are clearer. You can finally listen to God and follow His direction for your life. Here is an example of what can happen if you clear out the junk in your head and instead, fill it with God’s Will.
Have you ever wondered what God’s calling is for your life? While your calling, appointed by our Creator, is partly made up of your talents, skills, and gifts, it is also a component that’s found in your conversations with God. Listen to God. He will lead the way.
As you learn to pray about anything, praying with a surrendered heart will become easier and easier. Always keep in mind that our Lord is here for you at any moment for any concern of yours. Nothing is too big or small for our God.
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple. – Psalm 27:4
#3 – Ask specifically.
Name the need, the fear, the desire, or the burden with honest clarity before Him. Have you ever tried to keep track of your prayers? Have you ever looked at how God answered your prayers over the years? It is a valuable lesson to learn and will provide you with hope.
It can be difficult to track prayers that are too general. “I pray for all my problems to be resolved, Lord.” Be specific. Try, “Lord, if it is your Will, please aid me in balancing our budget this morning so that we can afford the bill that was lingering over our heads.”
Write down what is weighing on your precious heart. Record the date you prayed about the item. Then, as you receive answers to your prayers, even if they are not as you expected, write them down, along with the date that God responded.
This sort of spiritual activity will strengthen your relationship with God and help you grow spiritually. When you look at all of the times that the Lord did hear you and did answer you, you will grow closer to Him. Your sense of gratitude for all that He has done will expand, also.
Learning to pray about anything will become easier when you make your prayers specific. Name the person, list the various concerns, and ask the Lord to intervene in the matter if it is part of His Will. This will become natural over time, so give it a chance.
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him. – 1 John 5:14-15
#4 – Wrap every prayer request in thanksgiving.
Thank God for who He is, what He has done, and what He will do. As you ponder these areas of your life, take time to meditate and pray about each. A rush of thanksgiving will come over you as you do this. Let’s explore each of these avenues of thanksgiving.
We want to praise God for each attribute that describes Him. The attributes of God can guide you through this. Starting with the letter “A”, list one of the ways to name God. You might not hit all of the letters, but you can certainly find quite a few with the letter “A” alone.
When my husband and I are driving down the road, we often “play” this thanksgiving game. It helps us remember the many ways God has revealed Himself to us during the course of our lives. Another idea is to “play this game” when falling asleep. Give it a try.
Looking at what God has done will show you the many reasons you have to be thankful. One thing you don’t want to forget is the choices you misread, the trials that you experienced in life, and the many times you have learned to pray about anything, even the hard stuff.
Today, can you honestly say that you have made many mistakes? If you answered “yes,” you need to think back to what you think you did wrong. How would your life be different today if you had not made that mistake? We do not know. We must trust God with our mistakes and trials.
The final thing, as part of this point, to be thankful for is what God will do in the future. We don’t know what He will do, but we can be confident that His Will is for our best. He wants us to succeed, whether it is in this life or the next. Praise Him for who you are! Give Him thanks!

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. – Rom 8:28
#5 – Trade in your anxiety for trust in God.
Consciously hand over the weight you’re carrying and receive His peace where it once was. God did not want you to have a life full of anxiety. When you are full of trials and just feel as though you cannot take one more thing, consider managing your anxiety God’s way.
Forget about the self-help books that urge you to turn to the world to solve all of your problems. Instead, turn to God. Engulf your life with prayer. Prayer is all about your communication with our Creator. Are you as intimate in your communication with God as you’d like to be?

When you think about this, be sure to spend time in prayer. Ask God which areas of your life you need to improve upon. Request in a humble nature that the Lord lead you in the way that aligns with His plan for your prayer life, and pray about anything that comes to you.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Phil 4:6-7
#6 – Return to prayer as often as needed.
Persistence is not a lack of faith; it is the practice of dependence. It is relying on God to answer the requests that weigh so heavily on your heart and mind. Did you know that God knows what’s on your mind? He reads your heart. He longs for you to have a heart that craves Him.
Read about David the next time you do your Bible study. He is a fascinating character. You can learn about the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17. Explore his heart and learn how he was called “a man after God’s own heart” by studying the Psalms he wrote.
His life was far from easy. He felt the pain of betrayal by his men. Being chased relentlessly (by King Saul) drained him. However, regardless of what he went through, he turned to God. He told God exactly how he was feeling as he wrote his Psalms.
David wrote laments in the Psalms. He wrote praises and Psalms that were full of thanksgiving. However, keep in mind that you do not have to be a wizard with words in order to express yourself to the Lord. Just speak the truth about what is on your heart and mind.
Pray about anything so that you no longer feel restricted or bothered by the things that are on your mind. Remember, God understands your fears, your joy, and the circumstances you are facing. God knows why you need to pray. Lift your voice to Him, and watch what He does!
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. – Psalm 51:10-12
Conclusion
You have now learned how to pray about anything. Remember to make time for the Lord. Rest in His presence as you tell Him what is on your heart and mind. Which way listed above will you try first? Leave a comment. Share what’s on your heart. What will you share with God?

I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. – Psalm 34:4
